Frequently Asked Questions

The Manawatu Toy Library is a non-profit charity organisation run by a team of volunteers. We rely on our volunteers, grants, member fees and donations to continue to operate.

It's like a regular library but with toys instead of books. Our members pay a subscription and are not required to volunteer (although it is always welcome). Toy libraries are an environmentally friendly, money saving, community building way to make sure you always have new and engaging toys for your children

  • 3 week toy hire /  including large/outdoor toys

  • Access to more than 2,000 toys

  • Party Table and Chairs for hire / Cake Tins for hire

  • Gift vouchers

The wellbeing of our members and staff is paramount. At this stage at the Toy Library is continuing to run extra safety measures to keep our whanau safe:
- returned toys go in processing bays for 3 days before available for re-hire
- please continue to thoroughly clean toys before returning

5 great reasons to join...
  1. Save money by hiring, not buying.

  2. Save space by only having toys you are currently using.

  3. Save the environment by reusing toys and reducing landfill.

  4. New toys means new learning, which keeps little minds engaged.

  5. Teach little ones the value of sharing and community.

No, but volunteers are always welcome!

We are a non-profit organization run by a voluntary committee with support from our members and their families. We are always in need of new committee members. From each new committee member, we gain new ideas and a fresh look into what can be improved. We are not a council or government organisation or a private company. We are a group of parents working together to benefit our children. We have a dedicated Toy Librarian, Bernie who looks after the day-to-day running of the library and a volunteer committee.

If you lose a piece and you are not able to find the piece, you will be charged a replacement fee generally $5.00. If a missing piece causes the toy to be incomplete, you are welcome to buy the toy (and we hope you find the piece at home), or pay to replace it.

You will be charged the replacement cost or contribute towards the cost of a new toy depending on the toy. However this is reviewed on a case by case basis by our Committee based on the age and condition of the toy.

You can hire up to 3 toys out at a time or 2 toys and 3 puzzles (3 puzzles equals 1 toy). The hire time is 3 weeks and you can renew for a further 3 weeks if you would like to. You are also welcome to visit and swap toys as often as you like.
